The Ultimate Guide To Kenai Fjords National Park
Kenai Fjords National Park, located near the town of Seward in Alaska, is home to a Harding Icefield, one of the massive ice fields in the US. The park is massive in size and got its name from the several fjords, narrow channels created by glaciers, found in the park. Ice field are interconnected glaciers, and the Ice field at Kenai Fjords National Park is formed of such 38 glaciers, the largest is the Bear Glacier. Exit Glacier is also a popular destination at the end of the park’s road, but the rest of the park is accessible by boat or hike.
The Harding Icefield is the park’s most popular attraction. It’s about 700 square miles in area, and the ice is said to be a mile thick. It’s home to several seabirds, bald eagles, sea otters, seals, moose, bears, wolves, and many other animals.
How to Explore Kenai Fjords National Park
Exit Glacier: is the only part of the park that is accessible by road; after reaching the nature center, you can take one of many trails depending on how much time you can spend. Trails offer half-hour hikes to the glacier and a full-day roundtrip hike to the Harding Icefield.
Address: 60.1782633, -149.6494389
Rest of the Kenai Fjords National Park: is accessible by boat or plane, I highly recommend the Kenai Fjords Tours – Alaska Collection Day Cruise.
What to expect from the Day Cruise
The cruise departs from Seward; if you are staying in Seward, the tour company does offer pickup and drop-off service. On the cruise, you will see breathtaking glaciers, wildlife, towering walls of rock, and lush forests. You would most likely see some seals, sea otters, and sea lions playing and sunning on the rocky shores.
