Ash Cave

The most popular and photographed part of the park, a massive horseshoe-shaped cave, measuring 90 feet tall, 700 feet wide and 100 feet deep. A small stream of water cascades over the rim of the cave and plunges into a pool below. The cave was named after the massive pile of ash found in the caves, the source of the ashes is believed to be from Indian campfires from hundreds of years ago.

Old Man’s Cave trail features many unique bridges, waterfalls, and scenic views, it’s a moderately strenuous hike, one mile long and takes about an hour.  Old Man’s Cave got its name from the hermit Richard Rowe who lived in the large recess cave of the gorge.
